Social and Economic Class

I think that social and economic categorize individuals based on their income. I grew up in an upper-middle class, which means that there were no sign of struggling. We live in a decent neighborhood. We travel twice a year. One job is sufficient to take care of any finances and incoming bills. “Working class” people on the other hand, have to constantly work. Some of them have to work two or three jobs. They can’t afford the time off.

Status

I grew-up in a Haitian family. Status, in my culture has to do with your level of education and profession. If you didn’t attend college, you weren’t successful. Having a higher-education meant respect. I believe that education is indeed important, but you don’t necessarily need an education to be successful. I know a large amount of people who are doing very well without a higher education.
